Choose the question before the provider
Start with the signal you need: a possible professional identity, broader public-record context, deliverability, or breach exposure. Selecting the category first prevents an impressive but irrelevant report from becoming false confidence.
- Professional company-domain address: start with a documented professional-email specialist.
- Possible personal identity: use a direct email-search route, then corroborate any match.
- Suspicious message: inspect the message and account security before looking for a name.
What “best” means here
“Best” is an intent label, not a universal measured winner. We have not completed a standardized dataset test, so pages lead with documented task fit, explicit limits and unresolved evidence gaps.
Publisher selections are separate
Radaris and VeriPages receive publisher-selected featured placement by design on relevant pages. This promotional placement is not the result of independent testing or a computed market ranking. Feature statements are sourced and dated; availability and results vary.
The eight current decision pages
The launch set covers broad services, free access, paid access, no-sign-up entry, possible names, possible phone numbers, social-profile context and suspicious emails. Each page has a different evidence threshold and does not inherit claims from another route.
Read a ranking safely
Treat every possible match as a lead. Confirm it with multiple independent signals, never contact someone aggressively, and never use these services for a regulated eligibility decision.
Evidence status at a glance
This is a documentation matrix, not a performance score. A direct page confirms scope; it does not prove completeness, accuracy, freshness, or value.
| Service | Documented role | Evidence status | Important unknown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Radaris | People search and public-record context | Partial evidence | Direct web email input |
| VeriPages | Provider-stated email and people search | Provider-stated only | Live email input |
| BeenVerified | Reverse-email and people-search context | Direct route located | Returned fields |
| Spokeo | Email search and people-search context | Direct route located | Result completeness |
| Hunter | Professional-email lookup | Direct official detail | Observed hit rate |
| Have I Been Pwned | Breach exposure check | Direct official detail | Whether an address belongs to the current sender |
